How does your morning routine look? Do you hit the snooze button several times or do you check your e-mail immediately? How you start your morning can affect your entire day. If you feel stressed or anxious as soon as you wake up, you may want to consider establishing a different routine.
How do you Improve your Morning?
It begins with one simple word, LOVE.
According to Dr. Claudia Welch, when you love something or someone, oxytocin, or the “love hormone,” increases and you are more responsive to change. It has a calming effect on the mind and body, allowing you to create new positive habits. When you are stressed or not paying attention, oxytocin levels decrease, therefore, making it difficult to break an unfulfilling habit.
What you can do
Find something or someone that brings you joy and a sense of connection. It could be anything or anyone from family, a pet, or even music. Every morning I pick up my little cat, Leo, and hug him. He wakes me up and I carry him out to the kitchen until he wriggles out of my arms and is ready to eat. It’s part of my morning ritual to connect with my pet that I love.
Establishing a healthy morning routine, or dinacharya in Aurveda (science of life), is a wonderful practice to begin your day feeling inspired and loved. Love now, thrive later.
